It is assumed that the early Dialogues of Plato describes the Socratic position and the later ones his own. Thus when we use the expression ‘Socratic method’ it is the method enunciated in his early Dialogues apparently practiced by Socrates, to which we refer. The expression ‘Plato’s dialectic’ refers to the method formulated in his later Dialogues.
